28 New Members To Join New Mexico Legislature


ABQ Journal (Nov. 15, 2024) —With the large number of state representatives and senators who decided to retire from the Legislature this year, New Mexico has known for quite some time 2025 would bring a lot of new faces in the Roundhouse.

Now that the 2024 election cycle has wrapped up and unofficial results are in, the state has concrete numbers: There will be 28 new representatives and senators serving New Mexico come 2025.

The 42-member Senate is getting 15 new legislators, nine Republicans and six Democrats. That includes four policymakers who formerly served in the House.

The 70-member House is getting 13 new legislators, seven Republicans and six Democrats.

Three of the 28 policymakers are also ex-legislators who served in past years returning to the Roundhouse: Republican Gabriel Ramos and Democrat Linda Trujillo in the Senate, and Republican Rebecca Dow in the House.

Republicans picked up a few seats in the election, shifting the Democratic majority to a margin of 26-16 in the Senate and 44-26 in the House.

District 19: Ant Thornton, R-Sandia Park
District 21: Nicole Tobiassen, R-Albuquerque
District 24: Linda Trujillo, D-Santa Fe
District 27: Patrick Henry Boone IV, R-Elida
District 28: Gabriel Ramos, R-Silver City
District 30: Angel Charley, D-Acoma
District 32: Candy Spence Ezzell, R-Roswell
District 33: Nicholas Paul R-Alamogordo
District 34: James Townsend, R-Artesia
District 42: Larry Scott, R-Hobbs
