IPANM (May 14, 2020) – Next Tuesday, May 19, 2020 from 4 to 6 p.m., representatives from the MAP stakeholder group will participate in an online public forum to discuss last fall’s stakeholder meetings. IPANM will be represented by our Methane Committee Chair Ryan Davis. The MAP stakeholder group agreed to hold a public forum at the conclusion of the MAP meetings to further explain information included in the final MAP technical document.

(Western Wire) April 15, 2020 – U.S. carbon dioxide and other emissions have fallen over the past 14 years while the economy expanded and then recovered from the Great Recession, according to the latest data released by the Environmental Protection Agency this week.

Nationwide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the power sector have fallen 27 percent since 2005 while the economy expanded by 25 percent, according to the newest edition of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) annual emissions report.

Carlsbad Current Argus (April 9, 2020) – One of our community’s truly essential services right now is our local United Way, who has been helping so many people with the COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund. Director Linda Dodd asked us to mention a few more generous donors:  Canyonstone and Copperstone Apartments gave $5,000 to the program, as have Burba, Cole and Overstreet, Western Sky Community Care and Santo Petroleum. Carlsbad National Bank has contributed $10,000 to this important program and the Carlsbad Community Foundation gave $3,000. The United Way’s program is directly supporting residents in need. Please keep up the good work and thank you for your generosity.

ABQ Journal (March 11, 2020) – New Mexico’s oil boom could soon turn to bust after world prices for crude crashed on Monday.

The price for U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate bottomed out at $31.13 per barrel when trading closed Monday afternoon, down nearly 25% from $41.28 a barrel last Friday.

(IPANM) March 11, 2020 – Perhaps overshadowed by the news of the oil price drop and the Coronavirus, federal comments were due on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 regarding President Trump’s proposed updates to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

IPANM submitted succinct comments in strong support of the proposed changes. At the same time, the State of New Mexico declared strong opposition to the changes.

The comment period for the proposed changes has no closed. IPANM will continue to monitor the latest developments on federal NEPA changes.

Farmington Daily Times (March 2, 2020) – A plan for future development would open up lands within the current 10-mile Chaco Culture National Historical Park buffer zone to oil and gas leasing.
The Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Indian Affairs released the draft resource management plan amendment for the Farmington Field Office on Feb. 28 and it will be available for comment through May 28.

Carlsbad CurrentArgus (Feb. 12, 2020) – President Donald Trump requested $1.2 billion to fund the BLM in fiscal year 2021, with $199.3 million earmarked for the agency’s Energy and Minerals programs, as fossil fuels and renewable energy generated the highest revenue of all uses of BLM-owned land.

About $139 million will fund the BLM’s oil and gas programs, read a news release, while $29.5 million was appropriated for renewable energy to support wind, solar and geothermal energy development.

ABQ Journal (Feb. 10, 2020) – Legislators on a key House committee rejected a proposal Monday that called for sharply increasing the gasoline tax as part of an effort to reduce pollution and improve New Mexico’s roads.
It would have been phased in over time, eventually pushing the gas tax from 17 cents a gallon to 47 cents.
Members of the House Appropriations and Finance Committee voted 14-1 to table the bill, a procedure that prevented it from advancing to the full House for consideration.

Carlsbad CurrentArgus (Infrastructure) Feb. 3, 2020 – Three of southeast New Mexico’s most notorious oilfield roads are in for major rebuilds in the coming years as the New Mexico Department of Transportation aims to use surplus state funds from oil and gas revenue to ensure workers in the industry can travel safely through the region. In a Monday meeting with Carlsbad area business leaders in Santa Fe, New Mexico Cabinet Secretary of Transportation Michael Sandoval said a $130 million project to update U.S. Highway 285 from the Texas State Line 22 miles north to Loving was fully funded.
